Siren Care Exhibits at American Association of Diabetes Educators Conference AADE2016

American Association of Diabetes Educators

From August 12 to August 15 we drove down to San Diego to attend the annual American Association of Diabetes Educators Conference. AADE brings together the diabetes educators and the diabetes community that play a crucial role in the lives of the many people living with diabetes.

The conference was really FANtastic and we met some really great people! Dr. Chih-Yuan Wang and Christine Pei Ti Hsu, from the Taiwanese Association of Diabetes Educators, stopped by our booth to check out our temperature sensing Siren Smart Socks first hand :)

Preventable consequences of diabetic foot ulcers

Health Edo makes realistic diabetic foot models

We also got a surprise visit from Ellen from Health Edco. We really appreciate Health Edco for creating these realistic foot models which help convey the devastating yet preventable consequences of diabetic foot ulcers. Neuropathy impacts people of all ages and walks of life. Getting a yearly foot exam by a doctor is recommended by the ADA and this exam could help detect sensation loss which can lead to more serious foot complications. So please remember to check your feet and remember prevention is key.

There were many great education sessions at AADE. We gained insight from the FDA talk about design control.

We really enjoyed the One Drop presentation about their elegantly designed app and monitor and were chatting with Rachel and Jeff at the One Drop booth. One Drop is a diabetes management platform that harnesses the power of mobile computing and data science to empower people living with diabetes to live healthier lives.

We popped by the MySugr booth and met up with the one and only Scott Johnson! We got to see the latest developments in tech and design. MySugr is a diabetes management company that aims to make life with diabetes easier.

#WeAreNotWaiting

During the conference, we were also especially inspired by the great community and support provided by the Diabetes Hands Foundation. We really enjoyed chatting with Mariana, Michael, and Cynthia and learning more about TuDiabetes.

A special thanks to our wonderful neighbors Nightscout, who help people set up their own DIY systems to manage Type 1 diabetes. #WeAreNotWaiting

We, unfortunately, missed Dr. Steven Edelman at the Taking Control of Your Diabetes booth, but we did the next best thing and got an amazing picture with Dr. Edelman’s cardboard cutout! Thanks for the props guys!

Healio, dLife, Leapcure

We also stopped by the Healio booth and chatted with Kathy Huntley to learn more about Endocrine today…we even took home a few extra copies for for our drive back to SF (shhhh…don’t tell her we took so many :x) You can find the latest version of Endocrine Today online.

It was wonderful to meet up with dLife, who among other things, publish very insightful videos on dLifeTV; a great source of learning for our team! We highly recommend these videos for anyone who wants to learn more about life with diabetes.

Finally, we wrapped the weekend with a visit from Tyler at Leapcure, our favorite neighbor from 500 Startups’ new healthtech track.

The information from the socks is monitored by licensed nurses who contact you regularly to check on your health and the status of your feet. Your doctor reviews any issues that arise and determine if a clinic visit is necessary. Siren Socks are covered by Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and many private insurance plans.
